2nd Public Training Course on Uncertainty Quantification and Optimization in Manufacturing

The 2nd Public Training Course on Uncertainty Quantification and Optimization in Manufacturing was held on September 16, 2026, at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in Delft, the Netherlands, as part of the APRIORI Technical Workshop. The training course was open to members of the public interested in this topic and brought together nine doctoral candidates (DCs) from the APRIORI Doctoral Network, as well as more than five external students and visiting researchers from different institutions.

Focusing on the field of manufacturing, the training course was organized into two parts. First, Associate Professor Dr.ir. Oswaldo Morales Napoles from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences at TU Delft gave a talk on uncertainty quantification in manufacturing, covering tools such as probabilistic models and expert judgement. This was followed by a lecture by Assistant Professor Dr.ir. Iuri Rocha on Gaussian processes and Bayesian optimization, as well as their broad applications to different engineering problems in computational mechanics and materials. Both lectures provided in-depth insights into the theoretical background while covering a wide range of real-world applications.
